Kellogg-Briand Pact

Kellogg-Briand Pact
Also called the Pact of Paris and, more formally, the Treaty for the Renunciation of War, the Kellogg-Briand Pact was a multilateral treaty signed by 15 nations in Paris on August 27, 1928, and later almost universally ratified. it was sponsored and drafted by French foreign minister Aristide briand and u.s. secretary of state F. B. Kellogg. The pact had its origins in the international peace and disarmament conference held after World War I. It was suggested that France and the united states abolish the possibility of mutual war and extend the proposition to other world powers. As a result, the Kel-logg-Briand Pact bound its signatories to renounce war as an instrument of national policy and pledge to settle international disputes by peaceful means.
